Broccoli and Cauliflower Health Benefits and Nutrition Facts:

Broccoli and Cauliflower Antioxidant power

Vitamins C and K and manganese are antioxidants that can help keep the body healthy. Antioxidants are molecules that safely interact with free radicals to stop the condition of oxidative stress, according to an article in Pharmacognosy Review. Free radicals cause cell damage and disruption that can contribute to diseases. "[Antioxidants such as vitamins K and C] may help prevent conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and arthritis".

A cup of cooked cauliflower provides 73 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin C, 19 percent of the daily vitamin K amount and 8 percent of the daily manganese amount.

Anticarcinogen - Sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate from broccoli, is one of the most potent food-derived anticarcinogens (by Nathan V. Matusheski, John A. Juvik, Elizabeth H. Jeffery May 2004)

Digestion

Fiber Content is about 11 percent of recommended daily amount. This can help promote smooth digestion and maintain colorectal health. According to the Mayo Clinic, a high-fiber diet may help reduce the risk of hemorrhoids and diverticulitis (small, painful pouches on the colon).

Furthermore, a 2009 study by Johns Hopkins researchers published in Cancer Prevention Research found that sulforaphane, which is derived from broccoli and cauliflower, helps keep the stomach bacteria Helicobacter pylori from becoming overgrown or clinging too strongly to the stomach wall. This can help keep your stomach lining healthy.

Broccoli and Cauliflower rank among the top 30 powerhouse vegetables in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI), which ranks foods based on nutrient content in relation to calorie amount.

The following are the two Doctors that we would like to thank and give credit for providing us with the research that gave context to the sense of urgency that guides us daily in our nutritional goals:

Dr. Jed W. Fahey (JedFahey.com) and Dr. Rhonda Patrick (FoundMyFitness.com).

These are two very detailed videos of their combined efforts to share their research/information with the world.

Research has established the following benefits of Sulforaphane:
-Nootropic Effect - Broccoli and Cauliflower Improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, memory, creativity, or motivation
-Anti Aging - Broccoli and Cauliflower Lower inflammatory genes, lowers oxidative stress, detoxifies compounds that we're exposed to on a daily basis.
-Improves Cardiovascular Health - Sulforaphane Study where 40mg lowered triglycerides by 20%, lowered their atherogenic index by 50%, improved blood sugar by 50%
-Cancer Preventative Compound - 60mg sulforaphane studies lowered tumor progression marker by 86%
-Anti-Inflamatory - Sulforaphane Turns on the NRF2 Pathway in our body that controls over 200 genes
